This area is one of the wildest areas remaining in Atlantic Canada. Together with the adjacent Kejimkujik National Park it forms the core of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. There is no easy access into this area, as it is so remote. There are some companies that offer multi-day wilderness trips into the Tobeatic Wilderness Reserve, one of them being Hinterland Adventures based in Weymouth. You can find more information on this unique area here.
If you are looking for more information on this amazing area or wish to enter this true wilderness the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute is the place for you to be! Their regular seminars and workshops are a great way to learn more, or get more involved and sign up as a volunteer for a specific cause! Their facebook group offers regular updates on activities, volunteer requests and more.
For other volunteering opportunities, also check our the Friends of Keji website or the SouthWest Nova Stewardship team. The Friends of Keji website is also great to check on activities going on in Kejimkujik National Park, as you will find nigttime life music, get a true Dark Sky Preserve experience, or volunteer opportunities like helping to track endangered blandings turtles.
